Field Trip
1: Impact of Climate Change in the Kluane Region
Participants will be introduced to aspects of the palaeoenvironment,
the historic changes, and the lessons which can de drawn for the prediction
of impacts on the physical and biological environment.
Day 1:
Whitehorse to Kluane Lake Research Station: Introduction to the post glacial
history, discussion of salinisation and thermokarst problems, boreal forest
dynamics, and regional hydrology. Evening presentations at Kluane on the
history of Kluane Lake Research Station (Mr A. Williams), current research
and teaching at the station (Dr. Hik and Dr. Johnson), Kluane National
Park monitoring programs (Dr. D. Henry) and more. This will take the form
of an open forum workshop and discussion about CROSS BORDER research and
monitoring collaboration in the Kluane/St. Elias region.
Day 2:
The Kluane Region: Concentration on the terrain stability, hydrology,
and the Sheep Mountain Dall Sheep and climate effects. Evening return
to Whitehorse.
