Arctic Youth Network

Arctic Youth Leadership Conference 2006

Get ready for an exciting travel and networking opportunity! The Arctic Youth Network is currently looking for energetic youth from the Circumpolar North to participate in our second annual youth leadership conference.

If you are:

  1. an active leader in your community
  2. interested in becoming an active leader in your community
  3. a youth (between the ages of 17 and 27 - but we're flexible about this!)
  4. creative, passionate, socially aware, or concerned

Then the Arctic Youth Leadership Conference 2006 was MADE FOR YOU!

The upcoming conference has the goal of gathering 30-40 youth leaders from the Circumpolar North for five days of leadership training and planning for the future of the Arctic Youth Network. We will work together to build leadership skills and accumulate the tools to kick off and complete events and activities within our home communities. The week will include tonnes of fun workshops, games, and activities on leadership and the structure and work of The Arctic Council.

Got an idea? This is the place to learn how to take action and make it happen to impact the future of your commuity and the north in a positive way.

Some experience in youth leadership? This is the place to share what you've learned with others, network with other young leaders, and gather some support for your project.

You will be asked to:

  1. work with a partner in another Northern region before, during, and after the conference
  2. collect and present ideas, issues, and information from your own perspective and that of youth in your region
  3. contribute to 5 days of intensive workshopping, social events, and discussion
  4. commit approximately 1 week of time in October, 2006 for the workshop and involved travel
  5. continue communication with the Arctic Youth Network following the conference (up to 7 Board members and 2 employees will be selected from the conference)

This conference is a follow up to the inaugural Arctic Youth Network workshop that was held from August 25-27, 2005 at the Yukon College Campus in Whitehorse, Canada. Representatives from Greenland, Alaska, and the three Northern Canadian Territories worked together to draft the basic structure of the Arctic Youth Network and outline a Declaration on Climate Change.

This is your chance to get involved with and take ownership over a young and growing Northern youth organization.

Read the Declaration on Climate Change here: www.taiga.net/ayn/declaration.html. This document was designed to voice the concerns that youth living in the circumpolar north have on our changing environment and society.

The final details regarding the location and timing of the conference are currently being planned and will be available in the next few weeks. Conference application forms are available now.

If you're interested in attending please fill out the application form and e-mail it to Daniel or Jess at arcticyouthnetworkconference@gmail.com. If you need more information you can also write to us at the e-mail adress above or call (867) 633-5668.
