Dawson City Music Festival InfoMany of you have been asking about the famous Dawson City Music Festival, which takes place on the weekend following the EECOM meeting (July 20-22). Knowing that music is so important for so many EECOM folks, we planned the EECOM dates so that you could take in both events. We're working with festival organizers to offer an environmental songs workshop. And Dawson City itself is a main attraction for visitors and Yukoners alike. Although there is overlap on the Friday night, hardy souls are encouraged to make the trek to Dawson an Saturday morning to take in the best of the festival. Getting there: You can rent a car, motor home or hitchhike, or catch a ride with Yukon EECOM folks who may be heading north. Jill Pangman of Sila Sojurns has also offered to organize a van and driver for up to eleven passengers, at a cost of around $100/person. This will likely be a moving song workshop, with lots of jamming on the way. Please contact Jill directly. Tickets: They are normally difficult to get, but the Festival folks have agreed to set aside some tickets for us. Please let Remy Rodden know ASAP (before May 10 if possible). Prices are in the $70 range for a weekend pass. Accommodation: A place to stay is also notoriously difficult to find. We're working on a block booking at one of the local hotels. Many people camp, but the campgrounds are pretty busy. Festival format: Evenings offer a mainstage combination of concert and go-nuts dancing, as well of a couple of more intimate venues in local historic churches. Day concerts/workshops are held in various locations including the rebuilt gold rush theatre, the Palace Grande. Performers line-up: Usually a fantastic blend of styles, the 2001 line-up is no different: Rheostatics, Chuck Brodsky, Glamour Puss to name a few. Past performers include Bruce Cockburn, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, and more! Dawson City Music Festival web site Klondike Visitor's Association site (recommended)
