Seismic lines and mineral exploration

seismic lines Another type of land disturbance that has not been quantified is the construction of seismic lines for mineral, oil and gas exploration.

mineral exploration

Mineral exploration is currently restricted to the southern part of the region. Land disturbance from trenching and drilling has occurred in some areas, such as parts of the Bonnet Plume River basin.

Parks and land claim settlement areas are currently withdrawn from mineral exploration. Areas north of the Bell and Porcupine Rivers have been withdrawn from exploration and development since 1978. Elsewhere in the Northern Yukon, land-use activities related to mineral exploration have been exempted from regulation. Proposed amendments to federal Yukon mining legislation will provide a regulatory framework aimed at environmental protection.
