To: Participants of the 8th North American Caribou Workshop

The organizers wish to extend their sincere appreciation for your participation in the 8th North American Caribou Workshop. The event was a diverse affair that was attended by 240 people from government and private sector research, management, industry, boards, councils and First Nations’ perspectives. Over 60 papers covering broad areas of caribou resource interests were given in both the plenary and poster sessions. The involvement of colleagues from Norway, Finland, Greenland and Siberia diversified these proceedings and coupled with the North American experiences presented in our focus session helped to bring greater understanding to the effects of human activity on caribou.

Thanks to contributions from our major sponsors Cominco Inc., Boliden/Westmin Incorporated, and Diavik Diamond Mines we should have no problem publishing the proceedings. In addition to the proceedings papers we will also publish a selection of Doug Urquhart’s cartoons which were so popular at the event. We will also include the Elder’s stories told to us at the beginning of each session.

The torch has been passed and the 9th N.A. Caribou Workshop will be held at a yet to be determined locality in Quebec. So please continue to look to our website for new information as we make this transition.

Once again thank you for your help in making this such a memorable experience.

Sincerely,

8th N.A. Caribou Workshop Organizing Committee.
