Girl Guides Yukon Climate Change Challenge
In 2005, the City of Whitehorse and the Girl Guides of Canada-Yukon Council partnered with the NCE to launch a new badge program, called the Climate Change Challenge. The overall objective is to educate the Guides and their families about climate change and what individuals can do to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The Challenge consists of four badges including: Sleuth, Take Action, Create and Celebrate & Share, giving the girls a range of activities to choose from.
This program is the first of its kind in Canada. The launch was a great achievement with a great deal of enthusiasm from the Yukon Girl Guides. Since the launch, the Climate Change Challenge continues to be used in the Yukon and has been implemented in Ottawa. An evaluation of the Yukon program was completed in 2006 with no significant changes made to the program.
