New Generation Polar Research (NGPR) Symposium

May 4–11, 2008, Colorado Springs, Colorado
The NGPR Symposium will bring together thirty-six advanced graduate students and recent Ph.D. graduates who are or will be conducting independent research during the 2007–2009 IPY, current polar experts, and veteran polar scientists who were actively engaged in the 1957–1958 IGY, to provide this new generation with a common sense of history and purpose, increase awareness of work conducted by their peers, share ideas for educational outreach, and forge interdisciplinary collegial relationships with their peers.

Influence of Climatic Change on Arctic and Subarctic Changing Conditions

May 8-10, 2008, Liège, Belgium
This NATO-Russia Advance Research Workshop will provide specialists the opportunity to collate and discuss their findings and expectations on the evolution of the Arctic/Subarctic environmental and geopolitical situation. In particular, the ARW will bring together key players from several national and international Arctic research networks.

Canadian Science Writers' Association (CSWA) IPY Convention

May 24-26, 2008, Whitehorse, Yukon
This convention will focus on the International Polar Year and science in the North. In addition to two days of panels and presentations, the event will include a large display of posters about northern science and IPY projects. A one-day field trip will offer convention participants a chance to meet and talk with scientists and First Nations outside Whitehorse.

NICOP: 9th International Conference on Permafrost

June 29–July 3, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska
NICOP will celebrate the 25th anniversary of IPA and the 125th anniversary of the International Polar Year with special IPA emphasis on the thermal state of permafrost throughout the polar regions.

Planning For Climate Change: Weathering Uncertainty
