We tend to think of a year as having 4 seasons (winter, spring, summer and fall), but caribou from the Porcupine herd have 15 distinct seasons! These seasons are mainly based on vegetation and snow cover characteristics. Seasons are grouped into 8 annual life cycle periods. For more information about habitats used by the Porcupine Caribou Herd, visit Sensitive Habitats of the Porcupine Caribou Herd. Click on a year to view maps which show where the satellite radio-collared caribou were during each life cycle period. Then, compare between years to see how the movements differed during the other years of this study. 1997/98 |
