Outputs 4: Caribou hunting
Total annual hunting trips taken
The hunting sub-model calculates for each season how many trips are made to the traditional hunting areas around the community and the number of caribou harvested on those trips. It simulates the borrowing of hunting gear as well as the sharing of caribou meat between households.
Because the hunting model is based on individual households, we can not only simulate the total community harvest, (see graph at right) but also the number of households that do not meet their full requirements for caribou.
We can use the model to quantify the tradeoffs between wage employment and time available to go out hunting.
