how lakes form

The area of interest is pointed out on the satellite image with a yellow arrow.

This example shows a lake basin which drained suddenly circa 1977. Here lush sedge communities (bright red) are being replaced by a drier community of mixed Calamagrostis, sedge, and willow. The two Satellite Images on the left were obtained on June 30, 1990 (equalization enhancement of TM bands 4,5,3 composite), and on July 27, 1994. The aerial photograph was taken in late July 1994.
