Old Crow Flats State of N.Yukon Taiga Net
Monitoring Waterfowl Populations

Each year in the first week of June the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska conducts a count of the breeding population of waterfowl on the Old Crow Flats. The results show that total numbers of waterfowl have remained much the same, or slightly increased during this time. However, there have been dramatic changes in some species, such as Ring-necked Duck, Northern Shoveler, and Tundra Swan. The causes of these changes have not been well studied, but a change in environmental conditions at Old Crow Flats is one of the possibilities.
