Wetlands
- There has been little loss of important wetlands. Four wetland
areas have protected status, all as a result of land claims settlements
since 1984. Some of the smaller wetlands, mainly in southern Yukon,
are threatened by residential or agricultural development.
- An estimated average of 300,000 ducks breed on the Old Crow
Flats (a wetland of international importance). This nesting habitat
is particularly important in times of drought on the Prairies.
